If you are looking to migrate from WP Symposium to WP Symposium Pro, you want to take your content with you. The WP Symposium Pro Migration Tool plugin provides a way to migrate content from WP Symposium to WP Symposium Pro. It currently includes forum migration.
When migrating, initial forum topics , including any attachments are migrated. Replies and any attachments are also migrated. Other features, such as votes, and comments on replies are not.
As when doing anything significant with your site, we recommend first backing it up. Several plugins are available, please take a moment to check them out.
To migrate a forum from WP Symposium to WP Symposium Pro, access the Migration Tool in the admin dashboard via WPS Pro->Setup. Then select an existing WP Symposium forum and click the confirmation checkbox. Finally, click on the “Save Changes” button.
This will start the migration process, which migrates up to 50 topics at a time. If you have more than 50, you will be prompted to continue as follows:
You must click Continue until the migration process has completed.
When it has completed you will see a message like this:
Once migration has completed you must:
- A new page is created for your forum. If your forum was called “General Topics” it will also be called that. Before you migrate the forum, you should rename your old WP Symposium forum page (and slug, or “permalink”) as otherwise, the “slug” is generated from the page title, and is must match your forum slug – which will cause it to clash.
- Edit the new forum in WPS Pro->Manage All Forums and select the page that was created.
- If you are using Forum (Roles Security) set the forum permissions you want.
Provided in the Extensions Plugin.
